Kit box assembly and covering instructions:

Kit boxes are supplied ready scored. To assemble them you have two choices:

1: As shown in diagram A, by using a sharp instrument, cut out the (shaded) corner tabs.

Then fold the sides inward with the white side on the inside.

You now have a tray which can be held by putting a small piece of masking tape over each corner.

This part is now ready to be covered.

2: In Diagram B by cutting out the bold lines, this will create flaps that are folded inside (white inside) the box along the straight fold lines as shown.

These flaps can be glued or stapled to form the base or lid.

This erection system is more suited for those who want to paint the box.

3: Diagram C shows how to measure and cut the paper.

  • The red line indicates the flat box shape.
  • the outer line indicates the paper which has been cut one inch (25mm) larger than the box shape to allow for folding over. Except for the sides marked with a blue X. Which are cut to size of box.
  • The star indicates corners that need to be cut in this way to avoid papers bunching up when folded over.
  • Glue the cut paper (i.e pva glue) all over, leaving it glue side up.
Place the erected base or lid on to the paper ensuring the corners fit in the places marked with the arrow.
  • Carefully fold the four sides of the paper smoothing out as you go. Only then fold the paper over the sides, starting at the centre, turning the paper over carefully.
  • Constantly rubbing and smoothing the paper with your fingers.

Tips:

  1. Make sure the glue is spread out evenly, possibly thinned. This avoids lumps under the paper.
  2. Papers of roughly 120gsm is recommended. Papers too thin may rip, and papers too thick are difficult to glue down.
  3. Don't expect the first one to be easy! Practice makes perfect!
